William P. Coburn (1944 -)
William P. Coburn, born in 1944, is an architect based in Berkeley, CA. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Massachusetts College of Arts in 1966, and a Masters in Architecture from Harvard School of Design in 1971. In 1978, Coburn opened his firm in the San Francisco Bay Area. Coburn’s projects are primarily based in the East Bay and Contra Costa County, but there have also been projects in Seattle, WA; Martha’s Vineyard, MA; Hong Kong; and India. Coburn’s practice focuses on creating designs that include existing urban and cultural contexts, and solutions to environmental problems. Coburn’s work includes residential projects, historic preservation, multi-family homes, and landscape design.
The William P. Coburn Collection consists of drawings documenting 13 projects of primarily residential architecture and landscape designs. There are also two commercial projects of which Coburn designed the signage for storefronts in Oakland, CA.
